Post and Courier: Letters: Pass equine gaming bill to keep SC residents safe, regulate practices
Many South Carolina residents already engage in gaming activities, primarily in unregulated markets with potentially unsavory businesses and providers.
This leaves South Carolinians at risk of having their financial and personal information stolen and exposes them to possible cases of fraud.
By enacting the S.C. Equine Advancement Act, the Legislature would authorize three gaming providers to provide a secure, safe and regulated market for gaming on equine events.
Regulating the gaming market would allow our state to better protect consumers, capture revenue from gaming activities and educate South Carolinians on responsible gaming practices.
Lawmakers who support the S.C. Equine Advancement Act have the interests of South Carolinians in mind when advocating for this legislation.
Supporting stronger consumer protection measures should be a no-brainer in Columbia, especially given there is widespread acknowledgement that gaming already occurs and is not going anywhere anytime soon.
